Any TDI owners here? What are your plans going forward?

As the title suggests I have a TDI affected by the diesel emissions cheating scandal, right now I'm planning on selling it back to VW and getting something else, most likely the new civic. Just wondering what other people's plans are, what cars they're planning on getting if they do the buyback, and have a general thread for questions.

Right now I'm trying to decide whether to fix some bumper damage on my car, everything I've read assumes condition isn't really a factor as long as your car drives and hasn't had the emissions system modified. Considering they're saying that they're going to scrap all of the TDI's that are bought back the condition shouldn't matter either but I was wondering if anyone had talked to a dealer or anything about it. I had the damage quoted at $1200 to fix, I was going to use the goodwill package they sent for TDI's to pay for most of it, but seems pointless if they're going to scrap it anyway.

Mine is the previous generation non-affected TDI and I actually wish it was affected so I could sell back and get a new car.

Definitely won't be getting a TDI in the future but would consider something like the 328d

My parents have two affected TDIs, both are going back as soon as they take them. They haven't decided what they are getting as replacements but they won't be looking at Vdub unless there are some incredible deals. As far as fixing it goes, from what I've seen as long as it can make it on the lot under its own power it counts for the buy back. Still mulling it over. The TDI is a great long commute car. I love the hell out of mine, and the gas model has close to the same mpg. I think the civic is a significant step down from the Jetta TDI. Then again, the hybrid Sonata also is a contender.
I can either take what's behind the curtain (a new car), or let VW fix mine, and I get around $7k in 'we fucked up bad, please forgive us' money.

Yeah I enjoy my TDI quite a bit, I'm a bit tempted to upgrade to a GTI if VW is offering some nice deals to people giving back their TDI's. As for the Civic, the new one is rated 31/42 with the new turbo engine so it shouldn't be too much different from my Golf (2011 so the mpg isn't quite as good as the newer engine). I test drove a 2016 Civic a couple days ago and it's really nice, they've definitely upped the interior quality over previous years. The new turbo engine is really nice as well, doesn't feel as pathetically slow as the older Civics.

At this point I'm wondering if VW will ever even have a fix, I think they proposed another recently so we'll have to see if they get it approved.

Yeah that's very nice, according to the info there condition shouldn't matter too much, I was going to use the goodwill package to fix my bumper but if I don't have to worry about that then I can just use the $500 cash card for something else.

If I had one and really liked it, I'd opt for the fix + cash option. Mine are old school, 02, 03. Dirtier than the "bad" ones but legal.

I have a 2012 Jetta and I'm probably going to sell it back. It's really hard to turn down almost 85% of what I paid for it four years ago. Looking at a Cruze diesel if they're out in time, Mazda 3 S GT (2.5L, manual), Volt, and Focus ST. I guess you can say I haven't really made my mind up at all.
