Just got my SureFire L4 in today!
This is the one that uses a 5 watt Luxeon Star LED powered by 2 Lithium123 batteries.
It is tiny and pretty much blows away my 5D cell MAG.

I have one - not sure of the exact model, but I LOVE it! It's nuts how bright they are for their small size. Maglite lovers are living happily in ignorance. :)

Can you beat someone over the head with it like an aluminum maglite w/ 5 D cells in it?

No, but you can blind them temporarily. Much better than a lawsuit or a guy on speed attacking you back after your hit on the head does nothing.

Surefires fit nicely on the end of a firearm, so you typically don't need to smack someone with it. ;)

I have a Streamlight Scorpion..not quite a Surefire, but it's quite nice IMHO.

This is the one thing MAG has over the SureFire.
The SureFire is cool because it is so small I can carry it in my pocket with my car keys, yet it is brighter than my 5D MAG.
Also, the beam is better being even and white, as opposed to yellow with holes and shadows.
