I have an interview this Thursday for a Desktop Support specialist role over at an US Army recruitment center. Army Representative that is going to interview me kept calling me "brother" over the phone screen, is that something normally done in the army? Should I call him brother as well, or sir? Should I ask at the end of the interview if he served any where and if he did what is one great army story of his, or should I ask a different question that gives a good impression on the interview?

My advice would be DO NOT call your recruiter "brother" unless that's his name AND he says it's okay.

Also be ABSOLUTELY SURE that ANYTHING you agree to far as training/duty guarantees is in writing BEFORE YOU SIGN ANYTHING and make sure you have a copy of it to take with you.

Leave the original with family.... do NOT bring the only copy with you to basic.

;)

This is a civilian position, correct? If not, assume that the recruiter is lying about everything.
This so much from my experience with an Army and Air Force recruiter. If you are young, they know it and take advantage of your inexperience.

Big time.

This exact thing happened to TWO of my friends years ago when the Navy tried to screw BOTH of them out of promised training and duty location.

One of these guys had everything in writing stashed at home with his dad. (and his attorney!) He was able to literally walk away from the military with zero consequence after suing them for breach of contract and winning.

The second took his recruiter "brother" (lol) at his word and ended up getting totally screwed with no recourse as a result.

So I went there today. The first question I asked them was "Is this IT position a civilian position?" They said, "This is qn IT position, but no this position is not civilian and requires you to join and enlist in the US Army." I told them I am only looking for a civilian position, and told them thank you for your time and have a great day. Lucky I asked them, because I was almost going to start filling out a form they gave me when I just entered in.

I had a feeling of that because I remembered seeing pentagon like jobs a while back that had different language like GS-9 or something like that. Is their hiring process different and less bait and catch?

Don't discount a tour in the military. You don't seem happy with your life's trajectory. You could get in the military, see new things, find a bunch of new shit to hate, and get out with some creds that'll help you get a civilian job. It's only four years. Maybe you'd even love it. Doubt it, but ya never know.

He might also end up on the ground in Ukraine shooting Russians. That may or may not be plus in his view.

Army is shit anyhow, unless you've got something against knees.

Yes, govt work is normal, non-bait and switch. Recruiters are just shitty in general. They were trying to get you to join up. Actual govt jobs require actual credentials and tend to be annoying to get into if you don't have prior experience. Not impossible though.
