Any suggestions on what to do with a 40GB paperweight?

I have an IBM Deskstar drive (manufactured May 01) that decided spinning was too much work and it was going to quit. What should I do with it now?

(actually it still spins, but it sounds like a bearing went out or something. Really loud and makes squeaking noises)

Take it to the firing range and rent a nice high-power pistol.

I suggest the Fabrique Nationale Five-seveN. Twenty-round clip of 5.7x28mm.

Edit - OK, take the magnets out first. Then vent your frustration. 😀

lol, aren't you glad you didn't pull it apart yet? I was going to say that my friend made a clock with his old HD...just put the hands ontop of the platters, looked pretty nice. in a geeky kind of way. 🙂

Hey, I can RMA it. I think I'll do that 🙂

rma it man. I sent in my 45gb 75gxp, and I got back a 60gb 120gxp drive.

I was just going to say that the chances of you getting a nicer/bigger drive are pretty good.

Good luck, man!

I think you owe the forums half that storage. 😉😛

Yeah, and the forums owe me $54 in overuse fees for downloading 72GB worth of HalfLife 2 videos from me, so we'll call it even 🙂

You can still RMA, but I don't know what you'll get back. RMA's are now being done through Hitachi.
