Hey all,

I have Windows SP3 Home for System builders. I have installed it on my Notebook in Bootcamp and use it as a VM.

I recently built a new desktop computer and I want to know if it is possible to transfer this Win XP software license onto my desktop for use.

Thanks

I wanted to highlight the most relevant part of your post that directly answers your question. System builders is another term for OEM that Microsoft uses so the answer is no, that copy is not transferable to the new PC due to license constraints.

You have one of two choices here, one legal and the other not so much. You could use deception and tell Microsoft that it is on the same computer during telephone activation, which is a violation of the EULA and is discouraged. Or, you could just break down and spend the extra $100 on another OEM license of XP or even a better suggestion, Vista HP instead for the same price.
