I have WindowsXP and I see that Windows Media Player will do it (blech) but what about files? I'd like to back up some stuff to my CD-r but I don't have any software to do it :(

you don't have to have software to burn, just drop your file say.... myfile.zip onto your cd-rw drive icon, and click right on it (the drive), and click write these files (or something close to that)

Or you can right click on the files-your cd-burner should be in the send-to menu. When you're ready to burn, right click on the cd burner icon and go to "write these files to CD".

Ok, I got it now. Heh, heh .... I popped a blank cd in the drive and up pops this box "Welcome to the Windows CD Writing Wizard" Cool. Why isn't it in the start menu?
