Any Straight Razor shavers?

For some time I've been wanting to get a Straight Razor for shaving. Just never did it because I didn't know much about it and what was involved as far as how, maintenance, care, sharpening and on and on.

I was hoping perhaps someone here is a Straight shaver and could provide some info.

Thanks.

The barbar shop that I go to still does the old fashioned blade shaving. I prefer not to do them because while they are careful, they still sometimes cut people and blood flows.

You mean just a blade, or something like a Schick Quattro?

btw, Schick's quality is an object of some amount of debate... some people stand by them, some people say they suck (more for the latter, apparently). most of the time I hear "stick with mach3". =/

iunno. maybe I'm hanging around with the wrong crowd.

My barber uses one on my head and once in a while will actually give me a full beard shave. Never a scratch. I asked him once if I should use one myself. He told me no! It takes a long time to get used to it so if you do get lots of TP for the little cuts. But maintenance is difficult too. He had his professionally sharpened once a month but he has a pretty good client flow. So expect to have to have it sharpened at least once or twice a year.

I had it done to me once at an old school barber, if i hit the lottery i would get that everyday! It kicks ass, warm foam and a close shave.

I have been using mach 3 for a while and love it.

Yup, been using a Mach-3 for a few years myself...Love it.

Just always been fascinated by the straight razor for shaving.
