Any stores sell split-sized pairs of shoes?

I know Nordstrom's does, but are there any other national or regional (Bay Area) chains that do? I need a new pair of hiking boots and Nordstrom's selection of them is rather limited.

not in-store, but I am sure if the store is half-way decent, they can specially order it for you.

or just buy a pair of 10s and a pair of 8s. rotate or save a pair for when the old ones get ruined or wear out.

Unless you can buy a pair of only lefts and a pair of only rights, that's not going to work.

What is he supposed to do with the two shoes that don't fit his feet?

This is the first I've heard of someone having a two-size difference in shoes.

no one is going to split pairs for you. Thats crazy. Then they have to wait around for someone with the opposite affliction as you to sell the remaining two shoes......

shop at walmart and buy 2 pairs for 30 bucks.

I like how you picked the icon with 2 different sized eyes. :)

so, when you swim, do you have to compensate in order to go straight?

mostly kidding, of course :). I'm glad you're comfortable with posting this knowing you'll get some jabs and taking it all in stride.

imo no retailer is going to do this, but they can be custom ordered online.

Go to REI, buy two pair, return one. :D

Seriously though, REI has great customer service and is likely to split a pair, though they do charge a bit more than most other places.

not having experience with this, I don't believe REI would split the pairs, and like most places check to make sure you got the same sized shoes when purchasing (actually pulling the shoes/checking the tongues for sizes). Though you could just try to pull a fast one on them I guess.

only idea I have is go on craig's list and post an ad asking for a shoe partner with your opposite condition, that way you guys can coordinate purchases.

You can buy shoes one at a time at mixmatchshoes.com. And some shoe manufacturers will sell you one shoe, like Birkenstock and Clark's, if I remember correctly - quite cheap, since it's a public service thing. It won't hurt to ask them, anyway.

Also there are a couple of services that match people with different size feet.
