Hmm I'm tempted to block both of these guys - not b/c they don't have points but they both so close minded. What's even worse is they both seem to truly believe they're open minded. I'm not sure how gadgets get people so emotionally invested when all companies just want your money and don't have the slightest loyalty to you.

Have you been in VC&G lately? Or P&N?

It's enough to make you want to quit AT.

But those aren't the actual Gmail app.

And I'm assuming Samsung prefers it this away as you get users into your ecosystem. Want to use that nifty feature? Gotta use the Samsung email app or calender or movie player or keyboard, etc.

That does not make sense, though. If Smart Scroll works with Firefox on the S4 but not on other phones, how does that hinder growth of Samsung's ecosystem? If anything that can only help. All the more reasons to perfect the features that you can't get from other devices instead of throwing in half-baked ones.

Hmm, I just got an email from VZW that I can pre-order the s4 for may 30th. I have a few upgradable phones at my business. I may preorder one from a spare account I keep open at work so I can swap my iphone 5 with it. Nice. now i can get the One on my personal tmobile account and have both phones! WOOHOO!

Because when the typical cell phone user (who does not install Firefox) gets used to the Samsung browser, or the Samsung email app, or the Samsung Calendar and enjoys the additional features that work with those particular apps, the next time they go for an upgrade they're more than likely going to pick a Samsung phone. By creating a "brand" Samsung is trying to hook customers not to Android, but to Samsung's phones.

Sorry Red Storm, that's a straw man logic and you seem to argue for the sake of it. Besides which, the features don't even work correctly with Samsung apps from what I've seen. And apparently some non-Samsung apps do work (Flipboard?) which cuts against your argument.

I don't agree with it, I just think that's what Samsung's goal is. Ultimately they want to fork off of Android. I have no idea how they would ever pull that off (losing the Play Store is huge) but that's what they want, complete control. That's why I'm loath to support Samsung and buy an S4, but no other phone compares and gives me the things I want. I'm not going to buy the IMHO inferior One out of sympathy for HTC, if they can't compete someone else will take their place.
