any stone masons around? how do i do this???

i want to make this perch for my parrot. but i can not figure out how to "Screw in" the bolt. I got the hardware, the flagstone and drilled the hole. i then tried to screw in the bolt but nope will not go in but maybe 1/4 an inch. I have a lot of flagstone laying around so i thought i would make one or a few.

so does anybody have any idea on how i can put a bolt in rock? did they just drill a larger hole than the rock and put some type of masonry adhesive in the hole an insert the bolt? where i drilled a slightly smaller hole and attempted to screw the bolt in?

The way I've seen it done with concrete is a hole gets drilled, then a threaded sleeve gets epoxied in place, and the bolt screws into that. Kind of like a helicoil.

i've used these in brick:

it says '1/2' inch hole for some reason, but i used a 1/4" masonry bit

1. drill 1/4" hole in brick
2. clean out hole
3. hammer in insert
4. use #10 screw

well it needs to be open ended so i can put a wing nut on it and tighten it down on the cage bars.

The get right size bolt/screw and it should work.

Be sure you lock those wing nuts so your parrot doesn't turn his perch into a tombstone.

Wall plugs (for drywall) should work since this is a light application.
