Any stamp collectors around here?

I'm looking for some help in identifying a stamp. I collect books, and found this stamp inside a German celebratory birth book (~1900). I was wondering if there is a good online catalogue for identifying stamps, as I've been looking around trying to find one but with no luck. From what I've found it looks like a 1898 2cent Washington. But I've seen some that looked similair dated to 1894...

Also, it is cancelled, or marked by the post office. Is that bad or good?

I believe that makes it worthless unless the stamp is extrememly rare... I never collected though, I just think I remember hearing that....

I don't have a scanner at home but I can get it scanned in at work tomorrow...
