i have a pop3 account with my own domain name and its starting to get spammed recently

my host doesnt have any server-side filtering system or any filter at all like yahoo mail

i really would like to keep my own email and not have to switch to web-based public accounts like yahoo or hotmail

i realize i could switch to a new email name, but i just have sooooo many accounts (shopping/schooling/etc) with different internet services established that it would be a big hassle to have to change email names on all of them

are there any more solutions i havent thought of ? or would i have to do the above ^?

Have you used your pop3 account name to register with every site you go to?

Do you have a junk email account you use for places that would most likely sell your info?

GIANTcompany makes an spam program called Spam Inspector. I am currently testing it out and it seems to catch about 90% of spam that I get through my pop email accounts. This works with MS Outlook.

McAfee makes SpamKiller and will be updated very soon. They just bought a new company not too long ago that made a email spam filter program that they will probably integrate/rebadge as SpamKiller. This is supposed to be a pretty good product by itself already.

Last, but not least, there are "services" on the Internet that act as intermediaries for your email accounts. All email gets routed through them via MX mail records and the delete all the spam that comes through before delivering the real mail onto your pop email account.

In the future make another account for getting any spam, or signing up with sites that may give you spam.

The January 2003 issue of Maximum PC has a feature article on stopping spam. Pick up a copy if you can.

A little OT, but I was just in the CEO's office, trying to show him how to unsubscribe from pron spam. He got one from Hugh G Rection, today. Classic. 😀

im not a typical ignoramus personal assistant, i expose my email address as little as possible.

i dont sign up for mailing list, or enter my true email before downloading files from mp3.com or gameshq.com or whatever, and i always protect my address when posting to usenet

i have a secondary yahoo account for junkers, and signing up for hot deals, and all that good stuff

hey, but sometimes stuff slips by, ya know? this is real frustrating because i get email alerts from AIM and expect personal or business stuff but end up getting ads for Human Growth Hormone and Penis Enhancers

I use my company email address for internal only. I use a hotmail account to register for other stuff (subcriptions, conferences, tech supports, etc.) This account has lots of spam mails, but who cares?

I just signed up for a Hotmail account recently and I've been bombarded with hundreds of spam mails for doing nothing. Why doesn't MS do anything about it?
