Hi,

I've just got hold of a load of bits to make a new PC.

Soltek SL-75DRV2 (updated BIOS from K3.5 to K4 already)
AMD Athlon XP 1700+ (11*133)
1x Crucial 256MB PC2100 CL2 DIMM
ASUS V7700 Ti Pure
IBM 120GXP 41GB ATA100

I am well experienced in building PCs etc. and know a fair bit. I have a issues and would welcome any help people may be able to offer.

1) If I disable quick POST, the memory check counts (relativley) slowly upto 128MB then goes immediatley to 256 MB, after detecting the IDE devices the POST reports Memory Check Failed (or words to that effect) The error message ONLY appears when Quick POST is diabled.
So, is there a limitation of 128MB on the POST memory check or is my DIMM faulty? Please could someone with the same mobo and over 128MB RAM try this to find out if it's a problem with the mobo/BIOS ?

2) Secondly, when I try to install Win2K the system BSOD's with a STOP error, just after the message "Starting Windows 2000" appears at the bottom of the text based screen. The detail of this reports that the BIOS is not ACPI compliant, and to install W2K I need to press F7 to bypass the ACPI setup and run as APM. I want to use ACPI (at least I think I do). As I mentioned in my system details the board came running BIOS ver K3.5, and I have U/G to K4, but no change. According to Soltek the BIOS is ACPI 1.0 compliant.

Anyone have any Ideas? Any help much appreciated.

hi,
the problem is almost certainly bad ram (or, much less likely, a bad ram slot). the error during installs is also a typical ram problem. i am running the same mb/proc with 2 x 256 mb crucial ram with no problems at all.
good luck
