Any software media players that uses the arrow keys to go forward/backwards in tiny increments in the file?

I am looking for a player that does this because it is something I would like. If there is some scene that just played that I want to see again or because I have missed it, I can use the arrow keys to go back just a few seconds or so instead of using the mouse on the progress bar.

As far as I know, NO other player does this other than ATi's File player. :( And I am looking for an alternate piece of software. Even if it can be enabled with a plugin that is already out now. Anyone know?

You might try Media Player Classic. I'm at work right now and can't test it out but I think you may be able to move frame by frame with the keyboard.

mplayer, by default <- and -> are 15s and /\ and \/ are 30s IIRC but you can change them in the config file if you want.

I do a written recap of a radio show and sometimes quote the host word-for-word. Best player for me is Real Player.

Forward: Ctrl+Right Arrow
Rewind: Ctrl+Left Arrow

media player classic does it
i do it all the time
ctrl+ arrow <--> = 5seconds jump
alt+ arrow = 20 seconds
good for skipping the boring or just getting to the good part of something..or going back to miss something if your mind wandered during multitasking heh:)
sometimes the alt+arrow might not be bound, most of the time it is, i'm just not sure though so you might have to set it through the settings option window.

Thanks for the points to media player classic, I remember its simplicity but now as of late, I have been slightly spoiled....

I tried Windows Media Player 11 and its layout of the playback buttons is reminicent of Quicktime. The whole program has that Vistafied look. I like the way it handles ALL of my media files on my computer just by doing one quick search for everything video and sound related. Searching with the media library is a breeze too - as in if I want to hear a certain something or a certain group of something. Sadly, it doesnt do the <- and -> keys as incrementing through a file...

I do not have to input anything and WMP11 lists all of my stuff, all catagorized. Compared to Winamp's ML, Winamp.... there is a reason why in ANY iteration of Winamp so far I have closed out that view of its media library.... Why won't this same clean interface be used with Winamp?

Winamp I do like that it ONLY uses the <- and -> keys for a 5 second forward and backward increment viewing. I wonder if I can change this setting on how much it increments like I can with VLC.... Another beef with it is that .mp4 extensions and .mkv extensions, something that both WMP and VLC does not have problems with.

Speaking of VLC, it has a frame capture button like my old ATi File player (although, you have to right click on the window to get to it.... but it is there). It does have the <- and -> buttons but I really do not like using the ALT, CTRL, SHIFT, any other additional buttons with the keys.... There is not a way to set it and have it work with just the arrow keys. VLC can use the scroll wheel to track through the file but one has to click the progress bar FIRST or use it in some sort of way with the mouse to use the scroll wheel. You can't just have the window active and all of a sudden scroll with the wheel. And there is no setting for the scroll wheel as a progress scroller.

VLC also suffers some bugs here and there such as if I use the forward and back increment keys to the beginning of the file or end of the file, the window closes to only showing the player controls and the file menu controls.... Why??? This completely (in my opinion) screws with the window's maximize and restore button and not showing the progress bar. VLC has some fine tuning to go through.... Not to mention, does not work with my media buttons with my diNovo keyboard...

All in all, all three have things here and there that I like but to use all three players? Can't there be some consolidation??

A player that can use the <- and -> that is customizable
The Media Library like WMP, no more messing with playlists....
Screen capture
File types all work with it
Works with keyboards with media buttons
A player to call home to playing my music AND videos, none of this multiple program nonsense....
iTunes is out of the question.... if only they and Microsoft separate their store aspect from the program itself.... And if Quicktime didn't crash when playing my files upon just opening them...

Sorry, I just had to post this.... Any thoughts for this?

Another note....

WMP11 - its play/pause button is the same button (I like)
Winamp - play/pause buttons separate.... (I hate...)
WLC - like WMP11 (I like)

Trying GOM player now.... So far it looks and feels promising from a quick use. It lacks that WMP11's media library charm though but I noticed it has a Favorites... Its playlist scroll button is broken though :(

Gom Player is the closest so far in what I want/wish in a media player but without a few quirks....

It is the only player I have tried so far with a simple screen capture button. No need to use a right click and then capture.
It works with my logitech media buttons (but only if it is the active window....) and my media buttons << and >> also act as a increment scroller for the file. I wish that the media buttons will work without the window being the active one....
Lots of options I have yet to fully explore. It can use its own built in codecs like VLC but I opted not to...
I noticed it supports soft subtitles off the bat with files like .mkv.
Play and pause are the same button
Only uses the <- and -> buttons and no other funky two button combos for increment scrolling
A control panel with just the additional essentials without going into huge detail...

If only if it can handle media files like WMP11 then this will be a GOD amongst all media players. And if it can fix its quirks here and there.

Speaking from a resource usage:

Gom takes the cake with up to 25% CPU usage and 56MB memory usage :(
VLC with about 2% CPU and 25MB usage
and WMP11 with 3-6% usage and 17MB memory usage
Winamp with 2-5% CPU and 33MB memory usage

And apparantly with SRS WOW effects on certain parts of the files I play, there is a drop in audio gain here and there....
