Hi,

I am wondering if there are any Socket AM2 motherboards that support SCSI ULTRA 160 interface, for a new fujitsu 36.7 GB 15,000 RPM hard drive that i bought for cheap. I want to use this hard drive, as a main hard drive for my new rig. If there aren't any motherboards that support this interface what could i do to make a socket AM2 motherboard compatible with this new hard drive? Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Exactly. Or, if you can't find the LSI U160 anymore, use their current "U320" offer.

Mind that from "regular" 32-bit 33 MHz PCI, drive throughput will be limited to about 95 MB/s. With a single HDD, even a 15k rpm one, that won't be much of an actual limitation though.

Well the cheapest pci controller i can find is the Adaptec 19160 U160 SCSI 68pin PCI Controller. I can buy it for about 25 to 30 bucks, but is it worth it? Also, isn't it more complicated than just buying a pci controller in order to get the SCSI hard drive working. For example, i heard that windows xp service pack 1 is needed for the driveers on the pci controller to work, because service pack 2 doesn't support them. Is this true? Is it just better to sell this hard drive, rather then spending money on a SCSI pci card? What's a very reasonable price to sell this fujitsu 15K rpm hard drive?

If you have any links on cheap U160 or U320 SCSI pci cards please share. :)

I'd go with LSI rather than Adaptec, exactly to avoid the (almost traditional) driver fuss with the latter.

There is a budget series, with "U160" and "U320" cards that do exactly what their names suggest.
