Any small neat experiments I can do at home?

Sitting here finishing up some homework and then I want to make something neat like that bottle that had a chemical reaction creating cool colors out of the bottle.

Of course, nothing like that because it could catch something on fire, but anything slightly interesting. If its really neat and can be done with household items but uses fire, its fine, I can go outside. Seriously, I've gone out of the room before!

cut a grape in half but leave the skin attached.

put in microwave.

watch it spark.

You will need bleach, ammonia, and a large bucket for this experiment.

1) Neil down on your knees, and place the bucket infront of you
2) Place 2 cups of bleach into the bucket
3) Place 1 cup of ammonia into the bucket

Now, place your head over the bucket and see how many breaths you can take before you pass out.

Hopefully, you won't die.

I think MichaelD attempted to clean with OxiClean and some other ammonia product once... He lived to post about it.

Take a tub of salt water.

Two test tubes, put them in the water, open side down, pull them out so most of the tube is out of the water, but the tube will still be 100% filled w/ water.

Take two wires, trip an inch of each on, bend it so the inch of bare wire forms an acute angle with the rest of the wire, put the bare inch into the bottom of the tubes, with the other end of each wire outside the whole tub of salt water.

Connect the outside ends of each wire to a battery.

Hydrogen will form at the submerged part of one wire, and oxygen at the other, and then said gasses will bubble up to the top of the test tubes. Since both hydrogen and oxygen form occur diatomically, you get H2 and O2. therefore, the tube with twice the gas is oxygen, and the other is fun to hold over candel flames.

Or you can mix the two . . i mean, its just gaseous rocket fuel, is all.

Other neat experiments:

1. Get Big Red chewing gum... take the silver wrapper off a stick of gum, lick it once with your tongue to moisten it, then apply it to your forehead to see what happens... (have fun!! It's really neat!)

2. Put a layer of salt on your forearm... put an ice-cube straight from the freezer on top of the salt. Leave in place as long as you can.
Warning... this one may have long term effects (scaring)

hydrogen gas is created when you put tin foil into liquid plumber. place a balloon over it to capture it

On a day when you are really flatulent, take a bath and get a jar with a airtight lid. then using the bathwater to isolate the gas, collected it in the glass jar. After collection is complete, sell on ebay.
