I was thinking of getting an Abit SG72 board and a celery for my server and just wondered if anyone had any experience of boards based on this chipset...

TIA :)

Celerons, being cache and FSB crippled, plus a bandwidth challenged shared-memory-VGA chipset are not at all a good combination. Please reconsider.

Get a Duron or Athlon XP and use a nForce2 board with Dual Ch memory.

Like the other person said, Celeron is BAD!!!

THe only reason I'm buying it is that the board and chip are cheap (Abit SG72 + 2.4 Celery), gonna try a little overclocking, this is for my server not my main machine :)

Thanks for the above comments :)

while i don't own a board based on the sis 611fx, i have built and sold a large number of systems based on this chipset at work.

usually people who don't want to pay much for a system and don't need many features or 3d gaming power, we just throw together one of these for them. mainly sell a P4 2.8B or C with the board, that's probaby the best as there's plenty of CPU power to spare with the onboard graphics and all.

that chipset apparently even supports prescott... i was supprised too when i saw it on the box and put in a P4 3.0E and it worked :confused: from all the horror stories i heard of prescotts killing intel chipsets, i thought the sis didn't stand a chance... but it works fine so it should be a safe buy.

I managed to get the abit board for £42, remember this is for my server so no gfx required.

The system seems to run nice upto now not tried overclocking yet though.

Via = no no

Is it just me too or do SiS chipset based systems boot into Winxp faster than anything else? :)
