My boss called and said his usb ports on his computer aren't working (the computer just had xp installed on it). He said nothing in the device manager had a yellow question mark so I think the drivers are installed. Is there any simple reasons or things I can do to fix this problem?

SOrry I don't have much info but I think they're the ports on the back connected to the mobo directly right under the ps2 ports (not like front usb or anything). Suggestions please!

Thanks!

What mobo? I had to upgrade the drivers (might have installed a patch) from via for my gigabyte to get my usb ports working ... only 2 out of 4 actually work on mine weirdly.

It's a Dell Dimension 2300 running win XP. Mobo is some proprietary thing I'm sure

If it's just one USB device, I'd wonder if bossman just needs to get the latest XP drivers for the device. If multiple devices aren't working, then it's hardware related somehow.

he said his printer and mp3 player aren't being detected in 2 seperate usb slots.

He's not the most tech savvy person but I'd imagine he would have tried to install the drivers. It just seems weird that they'd not work at all. I didn't know you could disable usb in BIOS, which submenu would that be under??

depends on the motherboard, I think mine was under PCI settings or something...you'll just have to poke around

Reboot? :)
Sometimes my Logitech Dual Optical Mouseman doesn't power on - the lights stay dark in it, and Windows can't see it; I need to reboot to get it to work. No idea why; it does it only maybe once every other week.
