Any shaving gels/lotions that don't dry you out?

I've been using that Edge Advanced and my face gets unbelievably dry lately. Just to confirm it was the gel, I started shaving with some moisturizing lotion for a few days and no more dry skin but the lotion isn't a long term option.

Anyone know of a good shaving gel/cream that doesn't dry out your skin at all but results in a good shave?

I use Aveeno for sensitive skin. It's hypoallergenic and scent free. Seems to help a lot with irritation compared to the Edge stuff I used to use, and it costs a little more.

there is a brand called American Crew. It is a great mens line of shaving and haircare products. they have a shave cream that is very moisturizing and then an after shave lotion to soothe skin as well. you can usually find it at salons.
Try it once, its abit more expensive than say Gilette, but it works great so says my husband.

I shave in the shower, at the tail-end of it but I'm still getting really dry facial skin, on the areas that I shaved. I think that cheap Edge stuff I'm using just really dries it out because once I started shaving with lotion for a few days, the problem went away.

I shave in the shower also but cant seem to find a nice fog free mirror that stays fog free after a few months... Kaido: Does that one actually work?

I shave with Neutrogena Shaving Gel and then follow that up with Neutrogena After-shave lotion.

I use Gillette gel, the blue stuff in the non pressurized container, and loreal after shave.

I usually just go with whatever Walgreen's has on sale.

Same here. Every time I buy one, it works great for about 5 months and then gradually loses it's ability to resist fog. I have to keep splashing water every few seconds on the one I have now just so I can see myself :D

Good stuff.

Or, for those who don't want to import, go to Walgreens and buy their mug soap. It's got shae butter and aloe vera in it...very lotion-ey. Buy a brush and lather your face the old-fashioned way. You'll find it makes for a much better shave.

Eventually you might end up switching from a crappy shick/gillete/bic/whatever to a decent DE-razor.

Same problem mine has. Here is a trick: Lather some bar soap in your hands and spread it on the wet mirror.. Let the soap run down while you shower... After a few minutes, the soap will act as an antifogger and you will be able to see yourself in the mirror...

Until tomorrow's shower that is :(

Dont forget to rinse off the mirror after you are done shaving or you'll get some nasty soap scum buildup!

My routine

1. Wet face with warm water
2. Use Edge (or gillette) gel with aloe and/or vitamin E
3. Let sit for 30 seconds
4. Shave
5. Rinse face with cool water
6. Hop in the shower
7. Go out somewhere in public
8. Score with women

Anything out of pressurized can is more likely to dry your skin out. Its no secret that I advocate traditional lather cream or soap with a shaving brush, but if you don't want to go that route at least get something in a non-pressurized tube (personally, I've had good luck with Kiss My Face, Sharps Kid Glove, and Cremo-Cream).

Wow. At least 10 different opinions...

Welp, I like Neutrogena's Razor Defense line:

(1) Face Scrub - Text

Use with warm water and it'll give you a smooth face to shave and soften up your hair

(2) Shave Gel - Text

If you only get one product of the three, get this one. When used with a still-wet face after a warm shower, my facial hair comes off like butter. The face scrub and post shave lotion are only marginally better than their respective competitors, but this is by far the best shave gel I've tried.

(3) Post Shave Lotion - Text
