Past or present?

Anybody come from the miata or chose the S2000 over other roadsters?
Comments welcome from all :)

I've never driven a Miata, how does the S2000 compare in your opinion?

I have always loved the S2000. I'm sad they stopped making it and a replacement isn't planned currently.

I'd say the Miata is more tossable and forgiving. The limits are fairly approachable on the street. The Miata's drivetrain is overshadowed by its fun to drive handling.

The S2000 on the other hand has higher limits and isn't forgiving. The engine and transmission are a gem in this car. Miles better than the Miata.

Personally, I won't be going back to a Miata unless it's a spec racer. :)

Present, 06 Laguna. K&N FIPK, Comptech header, Litespec Ti single exhaust, Hondata ECU (dynotuned), custom-valved Bilsteins, Swift springs (690/650), Eibach sways, Gladman rear diffuser.

I've made it so much better that it's not good for anything anymore. ;)

How do you like the Litespec? I was quite surprised at how loud mine is. Almost keeps me from going WOT around town due to the attention.

I've gotta install my Gladman rear diffuser, from what I've seen it looks pretty nice. Only thing that sucks is that it covers up access to the rear diff.

I think the S2000 is still pretty forgiving.

I guess it’s all about perspective though....

For example an old single turbo 911. Those are pretty unforgiving, :-/

How tall are you? How do you see out of the S2150 with the black bar at the top of the windshield? I am only about 5-10 and find the windshield pretty low already? Or is that semi-transparent from the inside?

I'm 6'2" when I wake up :D

I can't see out of it. I stop about 10ft short of the white line at stop lights.

I have an '06 LBP. Mostly stock right now; I have a decent sound system and an ARK single exhaust sitting in my apartment waiting for me to brave the heat to install.

I thought about the Z4M when I got my car but I didn't think it was worth the extra cost. The older Miatas are more fun than the newer, heavier ones, although the next Miata is supposed to be much lighter so we'll see how that goes.

Anyway I really like the s2000; I'm 6'1" and I give up a little wind protection but it's not bad at all. I tried out one of those tint strips on the top of my windshield and had to rip it off on the drive home though, it was making me nauseous because my eye was right on the split and it was basically giving me double vision.

I want to get back into an S2000 as I feel motorcycles are too dangerous for me... and I can't bring the wifey.

Present. Stock NFR '03. Recently put Star Specs on her, changed all fluids, and took it to the track. Was a lot of fun. I agree with Mario…it isn't as forgiving but it is loads of fun still. I loooove the engine and trans combo in this car. The lack of torque really doesn't bother me much even in my AP1 puttering around town. It revs so freely that I kind of forget about it. I only wish I could redline in 2nd and 3rd more without breaking the law.

Nice. Still have your Z06?

I don't :( I didn't even have it for 6 months. Circumstances suggested that I sell it while I could still profit. I just bought the car at the wrong time. Now I'm saving up for a C6Z! Hopefully when the C7 gets introduced they'll drop into the low 30s. :sneaky:

When I first installed it I was shocked at how loud it was, but I've grown to like it. Yes, around town, I keep revs very low and don't use much throttle to avoid being a nuisance. But take it over 8 grand next to a rock canyon wall and suddenly it all makes sense. ;)

I do find it sounds better when warm than cold. Less drone. Also, adding the header improved sound and reduced drone. You hear more of the firing order.

For me, the main thing was the weight loss and power. Sound was always secondary. Also, I've found that nearly all S2000's sound the same at redline regardless of exhaust, it's just a matter of volume.

The rear diffuser is a very clean installation. The fitment is excellent. I changed my diff fluid prior to the install, so it should be good for a while. I miss the diff jacking point, but I can get by with the side points and frame rails.

Love your new S. What wing is that?

I recommend Hankook RS-3's for the S2000. Most of the serious guys have moved on to the RS-3's from the Star Specs. The RS-3's grip better and handle heat better, but have increased sidewall flex. It's overall a positive trade-off.

Yep, I might remove my cat to get rid of the drone, but then it'll be even louder!

The wing is a APR GTC-200 Carbon. At first I didn't like it, but it complements the hardtop quite well.

I've definitely agree. Just after I got my Star Specs on I did the WTD event and a few guys had RS-3s and loved them. They performed very well (so it seemed).
