Any rumor or news of AppleTV refresh?

A lot of people think that they're going to have an actual TV, but I'm really skeptical about it.

Hopefully by October, the AppleTV will be refreshed by next month since it was updated last October. I can't wait for an A5 with 1080p output.

apple TV is currently a niche product. unless they sell a real TV they risk losing business

It can already do Hulu, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime. I want the refresh so maybe 720p AVI video will stream without pausing.

Not without a jailbreak it can't do hulu. I refuse to buy a device I have to screw with to get what I want out of it.

It needs to work "out of the box". I want an official hulu plus client and official app store.

You can also get the video out adapter to do that as well.

But the AppleTV can be a destination for any media on your iPhone or iPad. I used mine to show my family video I took at my kid's school from my iPhone.

HDTVs are pretty much commoditized, low-margin items (except for the highest-end). I doubt Apple wants any piece of that unless they think they can do much better inside a walled garden, and charge a higher ASP. If all they can do is hide an ATV inside the frame of an HDTV, consumers won't pay 30% more for that.

I love my apple tv but have absolutely no desire nor would I ever consider literally an "Apple Branded" TV. Keep it as a low priced accessory and not a high priced integrated device. All I want is better media support out of box, and app store access.

Google TV has been a flop for the most part.

I'm glad I didn't buy something else. The Apple TV fits the bill perfectly. I wish they would open up iOS apps or something of that nature for it.

If you do iTunes, then appletv is your choice. If you don't, then roku is the way to go.
I wish all these companies would shake hands and offer one device with support for everything, including iTunes. With the latest apple tv update allowing the streaming of purchased tv shows without going thru iTunes or a pc, I suspect apple is moving towards full direct streaming of all purchased content. No pc needed.

I expect Apple to release apps for the AppleTV with iOS 5.0.

There is no way in hell Apple doesn't see the market for streaming content from all of the sources that offer apps on the iPad.

I know that they are aggressively pushing AirPlay but there is no reason not to have the network apps directly on the AppleTV.

Actually, do you know if this can be done? I was just googling and found a number of people who say Airplay for HBO Go only sends the audio. Sucks if true.
