I still have my Dad's 10/22 that he used to take me shooting with, love the little guy. I haven't done any mods to it, just because it has too much sentimental value to me. I've always played with the idea of buying one used (if ever I found someone crazy enough to get rid of theirs) to mod the hell out of it.

The thing is, you can keep all the original parts and return it to stock form easily. It took me literally like 30 minutes to transform it from completely stock to what you see above and that included changing out some of the trigger parts (hammer, sear, trigger, etc).

Or you could just buy a new one and start from scratch. They are only about $200. I'm hoping my son will enjoy shooting it. He's 9 years old and I've already got him interested in it.

Eh, I know, but there is still something about making modifications to it that kinda rubs me the wrong way. I don't get sentimental about much, but when I do, I try to keep it the way I received it.

Besides, there are so many parts out there, you can pretty much build one from the ground up; minus some key parts. I think I'd have more fun doing that than anything else.

I love the M1A but at $17/box the ammo cost goes up pretty damn quick so that's why I was thinking about getting a 10/22. However, after talking to one of my uncles a couple of nights ago I'm now leaning towards a S&W M&P 15-22. I got the M1A instead of the M4 but still like the look of the M4 platform.

It'll cost a bit more than the 10/22, but I think it would be a good alternate. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I was in my early 20s when I bought it. No sentimental value here.
