Question Any RTL-SDR users ?

I'm going to re-start an old hobby of listening to the air ...
My days of listening to my old Radio Shack Patrolman 10 are gone.
* It just will not tune anymore *

Been researching the custom built, and factory built units.
I'm interested in capturing
1. the helicopters flying over my house to my local hospital. ( VHF I think )
2. Shortwave radio...
3. and any kind of ' official business " in my area.

... and must be able to transfer audio/data to my computer.

I have a legit concern about the loop antenna they sell these days that appears to have no lightening protection. ( My Patrolman 10 was hit around 1976 that blew out our phone system in the house. I had a copper line wire with insulators at each end strung in my backyard tree, and had a surge protection to copper ground stake. Yet it still penetrated into the house. And had to send my radio to a specialist for repair )

If you have some experience under your belt, and have a few minutes to share your thoughts ..

I would like your opinions about the Malachite SDR Radios, and the new RTL-SDR Blog V4.
Some have 2 antenna connections also ...

Do the make a ' hot swap ' antenna system for switching frequencies now ?

Forgive my outdated knowledge ...
