Hey guys!

My fiance is a consultant and I'm looking at a proposal. It is very technical at least to me. 🙂 One of the key parts is a volute (looks like a snail lol) and it has a weight of 24,545 (kg). There are other parts too. The yard is in Germany where this is to be done.

This stuff reminds me of word problems we had in engineering school! 🙂
A Volute is an impeller pump.

Actually the volute is the part of a centrifugal pump or compressor assembly that includes the head (discharge) side and surrounds the impeller and the suction eye. It is exclusive of the stuffing box and mechanical seals if the pump is so equipped.

Are you working up a bid for transport?

The helicopter job? Yeah that's another thing in the works too. 🙂

if I was paying you to do something like that, I would be very concerned you had to ask for help on the internet.

doubt it, but if you're doing something like that without experience you're going to get someone hurt or do some serious damage. If you have the experience, you wouldn't be asking for advice on ATOT.

Let's get something straight here.

I never claimed to be a pro at rigging. My fiance is. I'm intrigued at all the technicality of this work. He is very busy and doesn't like talking about too many technical aspects during our quality time together.

I asked a question out of curiosity not for advice. He is often surprised at the things I come up with as a result!

Not a rigger, but an operator. I worked dam and bridge jobs for a few years, and have been a part of the team that launched/set some 120,000 Lb. concrete I-beams over a river. I wish I had a digicam when I did that job.

Those dam beams are dam big! 😉

I tell ya, it was the dam job for many reasons🙂
65 mile commute into the middle of nowhere, one way. 15 miles of gravel. Over a mountain pass on the way, a month or so of ice each winter.

The last bridge jobs were more fun. Summertime, got to play in the river with big excavators, fish for salmon on lunchbreak.
