Any reviews of the Radeon X800GTO ?

I believe its based on the X850 with 4 pipes disabled (is that right?):-

- 400MHz GPU Clock Speed
- 256MB 980MHz GDDR3 memory accelerates the latest cutting edge 3D applications
- 256-bit quad-channel GDDR3 memory interface
- Twelve pixel pipelines
- Six programmable vertex shader pipelines

Seems a good spec ,& according to the few reviews of the X800GT (which has only 8 pipes) the GTO should be a fair bit faster than the 6600GT or the 6800.
Ebuyer are selling it for £115 so it seems to be the ideal PCIe card.

But I'd like to see the actual reviews!;)
Know of any?

TIA

I believe you want the GTO2. there are numerous threads about this already. If you can pick it up cheap DO IT NOW, you will regret waiting as there wont be any later.

Yep I just have thanks :)

I'm still confused though ,is the only difference between the GTO & GTO2 the different cores they use? (GTO= X800XT core? ,GTO2= X850XT core? )

Unmodded & not o/ced do they give the same performance?

Isn't the X1600XT slower than a 6600GT and way more expensive? Doesn't sound like a good buy to me.

No, it's faster than the 6600GT but slower than the 6800GT and expensive to boot.

I'd get the X800GTO2. With pipes unlocked, it's faster than the X1600XT.

Thanks for the links killuminati ,especially the hexus ones:)

Looking here the X1600XT is at best sometimes slightly faster than the X800 ,otherwise it performs similarly for the most part.Bearing in mind the GTO is faster than the X800 (even at def clock) then the X800GTO will probably be faster than the X1600XT.Also I can't wait for long

I also found this excellent GPU database which includes the newer X800 variants ,which answered my question.
It would seem the X800GTO lies somewhere between the X800 & X800 Pro.
All 3 have 12 pipes

X800
GPU - 400MHz
RAM - 350MHz

X800 GTO
GPU - 400MHz
RAM - 490MHz

X800 Pro
GPU - 475MHz
RAM - 450MHz

Overnight the GTO2 has just gone up ~£15 :( so that's put it even more beyond my mates budget ,£115 vs £164 is a big difference ,pitty.
Still even with 'just' 12 pipes it seems to be a good performer ,& I'm going to be overclocking it too ;)

Thanks for the input guys :)

Here is everything you need to know: Unless some 7X00/X1X00 series card arrives with good performance AND a price under $250, a 6000 series/X800 series card is the way to go for midrange performance. X1600 is a very poor performer compared to top of previous gen cards like 6800GT and X850XT. The GTO cards are 12 pipe products slotting between the X800 and the X850pro/X800XL, like you say. All are made from surplus high end parts that ATI had a large supply of, specifically cores from what would have been X800XTs and X850XTs. Out of the box, most GTO^2s and regular GTOs are the same (I say most because apparently some GTO^2s are unlocked already, not confirmed by me though). THe GTO^2 is basically a GTO that Sapphire has guarenteed is the R480core from the X850XT and that will always unlock to become a very overclock happy 16 pipe card, basically guarenteed X850XT performance, but for $250+. The GTO normally does not unlock, nor does it normally have the external power connector present on the higher end cards, but the Connect3D GTO DOES. In theory the $175 Connect3D GTO is basically an X800XT, but in practice many users have reached X850XT and even X850XT-PE speeds with it, but your luck may vary. There is at present one C3D GTO that did not unlock, but thats compared to 26 that have unlocked, leading many to suspect a software problem with the one exception. Personally I think potential X850XT-PE performance for $175 is the way to go.

I thought the external power connector was only needed for the AGP version?
Can't the PCIe bus supplie enough power for high clocked cards?

Btw we don't use dollars here :p;)

Thanks for the info :)

I'll be getting him the Sapphire X800GTO 256mb GDDR3 PCI-E VGA/TVO/DVI for £115 ,the GTO2 is too expensive.

The Connect3D GTO is also moddable to 16 pipes. There was a thread floating around that cited greater than 90% success, although you had the X800XT core as opposed to the X850XT core. Not too much difference though, and it's an alternative to think about before you pull the trigger.

Sorry, yes I believe it can, but some people (like me) have good power supplys that only have a 20 pin connector.

You need the external plug with 20pin PSUs?

Thanks for that ,I found ebuyer are selling that for just £1 more! :D
I think I'll go for that one then ,can you link us that thread you mentioned?

[edit]
For anyone whose dug this thread up in a search Anandtech latter did a review of the X800GTO vs 6800GS & others ,a totally unfair comparision though as the 6800GS is about £65 more!

Anyway ,Anandtech review of the X800GTO
