Any recycling centers that'll let you pickup stuff FROM it?

I'm in the california bay area and my friend and I are looking for "obsolete" IT equipment but the problem is, we have no idea where to start. We know that computer recycling centers exists but we don't know where they are in our area and if it'd be possible to pickup equipment from them or not.

Stuff I'd be interested in would be: Desktop computers, Laptops, Networking equipment, and server equipment such as racks etc.. I know there are people who want to get rid of their "e-waste" but I don't know who nor where to look.

There's a place around here (Kansas City area) called Surplus Exchange that you can find all of that stuff. I'd google for surplus computers in your area and see what comes up.

I know there's a facility in Palo Alto that accepts e-penises, errr..., I mean e-waste. But I don't know if they let you pick anything up.

my town held an e-cycle a while back, so a friend and I took a couple old computers (6+ years old) that couldn't be scavenged anymore.

well, we came back with ~$2k worth of stuff. he took home six two-year-old computers to use for his eagle scout project (refurbing computers for foster kids). I took home a wireless router but figured that I didn't want to fill the house with more computer parts. I did snag an HD DirecTV receiver and a DirectTV TiVo HR10-250 that had a "does not work" label on it, but worked fine once we set it up properly.
the price we had to pay for the motherlode? helping the recycling guy fill a truck for an hour. we gladly assisted.
