Any Recommended 2d Steam Games?

A few of my personal favorites:

Pixeljunk Shooter (the Ultimate version was just released and includes 1 and 2)
LIMBO
Bloons TD5
Escape Goat 1 and 2

The Trine series (1, 2, or 3). Super beautiful and it has great two player action if you want to go that route.

Capsized. Cool little scroller.

World of Goo

There's many more but I'm mentioning WoG simply because I replayed it recently and I had fun again. But I have to admit that I wouldn't recommend it at its current price but that's just me really. Some people wouldn't mind paying even triple that for it, that's fine.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

That one can get pretty addictive, but it can also be surprisingly difficult (well, it IS at times, for me anyway), but not frustrating.

And there's so many others, I'll let everyone else keep on going for their own suggestions, the list could be very long.

Shovel Knight
Mighty No. 9 will be coming out soon - it is basically Megaman, made by the creator of Megaman.

Much of the indie scene is 2D. There are many decent ones in all genres.

There are hundreds, maybe even thousands. Too many to list. The most relevant sub-genres you're looking for are:-

- Artillery games (like Hedgewars, Worms, etc)
- Board / tile games (Chess, Mahjong, etc)
- Card games
- Old MS-DOS Games (Lemmings 1&2, Theme Park / Theme Hospital, etc)
- Platform games (Ori And The Blind Forest, Spelunky, The Cave, Unmechanical, etc)
- Puzzle games (Bejeweled, Boulder Dash, Contraption Maker, Mousecraft, Zuma, etc)
- Point & click adventure games (from old ScummVM to modern)
- RPG-lite games (eg, Spiderweb Software's : Avadon, Avernum, Geneforge, etc)
- Retro emulator (Arcade MAME, Commodore 64 / ZX Spectrum) games.
- Tower Defense games (eg, Garden Defense, Kingdom Rush, Plants vs Zombies, etc)
- Other Indie's like (Don't Starve, Neighbors From Hell 1&2, Party Hard, This War Of Mine, etc).

If you include "pseudo 2D/3D" games like top-down RPG's with fixed non-rotational isometric views, then add stuff like Baldur's Gate 1&2, CLARC, Commandos Behind Enemy Lines, Diablo 2, Jagged Alliance 2, Icewind Dale, The Marvellous Miss Take, Transistor, etc.

In short - Steam's "Adventure / Indie / Puzzle" game sections plus a large chunk of GOG's catalog probably have what you're looking for.

I think that he is expecting recommendations for good games (specific titles), not game category definitions. Certainly he is not looking for a list with thousands of games in it.

My favorite is Outland.

I also like:

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
Double Dragon Neon
Super Meat Boy
Mark of the Ninja
Shank 2

Jets N Guns is the most fun you can have with your pants on.

Unless you take your pants off. In which case it is the most fun you can have with your pants off.
