just formatted my hard drive and did a fresh install of XP Pro. now my cable speeds are 60% slower than they were previously.

results from bandwidthplace.com

i've looked at dslreports and others, but not sure what is the better choice for a downloadable tweaking app. or are there manual settings i can change that would help?

what is my best options to open this up a bit on my pipeline?
i'm on TW RR, with their Toshiba PCX1100U modem, AMD 1.4ghz, MSI K7T266 Pro2 system board.
thanks in advance for any input.

Download DrTCP: <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.dslre
ports.com/front/DRTCP019.exe">http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP019.exe</a>

Run the proggie, it will show the current settings of TCP/IP parameters. Write them down.

You can change any variable that you want, click Apply, and reboot the computer, if no good; you can always change to your original values.

Example for good Cable values:

Tcp Receive - 255552

Window Scaling - Yes

Time Stamping - No

Selective Acks - Yes

Path MTU Discovery - Yes.

Black Hole - NO

Max Duplicate - 2

TTL - 64

MaxMTU ? 1500

ok, that definitely helped.

but when i ran the speed test this morning (before drtcp), my connection was much faster than it was last night anyway.

still i went thru drtcp and my speed test this morning went from

Communications
2.2 kilobits per second to 3.4

Storage
271 kilobytes per second to 414

1MB file download
3.8 seconds to 2.5

thanks for the help!

I'm not saying that this was the problem but keep in mind that during peak times (evening hours) most ISPs will have to share the same amount of bandwidth with more users thus slowing your connection down significantly.
