Any recommendations for a PCI video card? :\

Hey there.

I have this Dell 2200 I was given, and it only has integrated video or whatever you call it, (no card) and apparently has no AGP slot, so the dude at the computer store said I need a PCI card, but they didn't carry any.

I figured I'd look through pricewatch and newspaper classifieds maybe, but I have no idea what a good PCI card would be.
I'm not too into gaming, but do have Quake3 and a couple other things, and do some 3D graphics stuff with Ulead and a few other programs, so if I could boost the performance a bit without spending too much money, that would be sweet.

Any advice?
(other than getting a new motherboard/pc/etc. :p )

First off, welcome to the forums. And congratulations on being intelligent enough to post in the right section. :D

Secondly, I hate to tell you exactly what you don't want to hear - but Dude, dump the Dell. :p PCI is even more of a dead-end for 3D performance now.

If you're willing to sit on the upgrade fence for awhile, look for a Radeon 9100 PCI off eBay ($50) - that's your best option. Everything else is below that in performance and higher in price - R9200 PCI, FX5700, etc.

The existance of this forum should alleviate your fears. :D

That's sufficient for Q3A and other older DX7-generation games, but not beyond that unless you're willing to play at 640x480 "No Detail" :p

hey! I had a 700 mhz celeron with 319 mb's of ram and i played UT 2k3 at somewhat low detail at 800x600 smoothly. It's was a nice card for it's time, and it's not too bad now because there isnt much you can do with PCI gfx cards now.

I know there's a buy/sell part, i just wanted to let him know i could sell it without having to redirect him over there. Otherwise, if u can find a good deal on a 9100, go for it!
