Hi, this will be used for a office workstation and will need only basic onboard video and such. I was thinking about an intel but an open to amd also. Thanks and please lmk

Of course your price limit means SFF is not an option.
The reason I say this is I know of some nice SFF solutions that run around $160 that include the case and a heat sink and fan.

If, however, expansion is a requirement then the next question would be about the cpu.
If AMD, would you accept the older Athlon XP or is an AMD K8 the only AMD you'd accept?

Under $100? For the whole system?

Not doable, I'm afraid... Unless you are willing to take a 10-year-old Pentium-II off somebody's hands or something.

Even 2- or 3-year-old refurbished Dells cost $300+.

HTH.

Oops, I misread. I'm still thinking of another fire I'm puting out.
Yah, but maybe you can get a combo from Fry's, but that's about it.

I think Newegg sells some of those Asus Terminator C3 barebones kits for about $112. However they run like a 600Mhz PIII. They are ok for a file server or a small backup server or something like that. These are like VIA Mini-ITX motherboards except they have Soundstorm sound card chips. Everything is integrated.

Comes with Floppy, CDROM, PROCESSOR, Motherboard, Case. You really only have to add the DDR2100 and the Hard Drive. I dont recall if it comes with a mouse/keyboard or not.

Personally you can probably find a used 400 Mhz P4 somewhere for sale.

Dell has been selling some cheap Celeron systems for around $299 or so.

This is just a low-end Dell Computer.

What I need is just the motherboard and cpu. I am willing to accept Athlon XP cpus as well as older P4's and even maybe a celeron based system. edited title to reflect

Thanks

DFI KM400-MV or Abit VA-20 KM400 based mobos with whatever Sempron CPU that fits your budget. Rock solid and plenty fast enough. Newegg had some of the DFI as refurbs for around $35. you just might need to wangle some I/O shields from DFI if the refurb comes naked.
