Any recent MS updates or Virus causing "Generic Host Process" error?

All of a sudden many people in this one division (mostly Dell) have been getting generic host process erros referring to netapi32.dll. This was onset all at once. It's not affecting everyone one, but a lot of people. This division configures its PCs to automatically install updates directly from Microsoft so I thought I would ask around. That makes me suspect updates or some kind of virus/malware.

Didn't see anything in the last 90 days on this forum. I've found a bunch of different things from googling but doesn't appear to be anything recent. Anybody see anything like this?

I started getting similar on a MCE machine, but the crashdump pointed me to a known update via Windows Update. These machines all up to date on patches?

The onsite techs say they went to the Microsoft Update website and installed all updates and it didn't fix it. I had them try some of the stuff I found online, like a couple hotfixes and disabling some ports but nothing seems to fix it.

Last week, doing numerous updates, I ran into this error (Generic Host Process) with XP Pro on a Dell. A message from MS pointed to another patch, which I installed and rebooted and the problem went away.

I don't suppose you know that patch you used? I know they have loaded two hotfixs that aren't on microsoft update and those didn't work.
