K I am loooking into building a new system with basically the Addronics 7890A and Enermax Eg-365PVE PSU. Anybody got any reasons not to have the Addronics 7890A w/ Enermax EG-365PVE? Anyone think that i could have a better case or case and psu combo?

Lots of posts please, but no stuff about a better cpu, i am decided on everything else except case. also i want experiences and hard facts, please try not to give bias opinions.

thanks

P.S Will be running this in the case:

EPoX 8KHA+ (8KHA2 if they do one)
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
256 Mb DDR RAM PC2100
IBM 60GXP 60Gb
Pioneer 16x40 tray DVDROM
Phillips 16x10x40 CDRW
GeForce III Ti 64Mb

I've owned all three versions of that 7890A frame.

Pluses:
Big and Roomy
Lots of places for fans/drives
Sturdy like a tank
Nice fan filters

Minuses:
Rough edges compared to an Antec, only a half-hearted attempt to round the corners, I cut myself a lot.
Heavy (if that matters)
The shelf through the middle of the case is a huge pain in the ass...it is great for hanging a fan or drive cage, but it gives you a small opening to pass all your cables through and it makes for bad airflow. This is the biggest thing wrong the case in my opinion.
You're going to need long IDE cables to reach the top bays.

If I were you, I'd get the Addtronics W8500 instead. Just as well built, but it is fatter instead of taller...makes for a better internal space/airflow.

Yes, get the Addronics 7890A w/ Enermax EG-465PVE. You will have so many locations to add cooling fans, the extra amperage at 12 volt rail from the Enermax EG-465PVE will come in handy. It is well worthy the extra $30.

I've got the 7896 and if you were going to go with the tall Addtronics I'd recommend you go with this one. The main difference between the 2 cases is the 7896 takes a 120mm + an 80mm fan on the front panel. The 7890 takes 2 80mms. You can run a lower speed 120mm fan and get much more airflow with less noise.

My suggestion to you though would be to go with an Antec SX1040 case instead, unless you really need 6 5.25" drive bays. Here's why:

1)Really long cable runs needed to upper bays, floppy takes 30+" cable, CDrom/burner takes 24" ide.

2)Case is noisier than SX1040 (maybe due partially to fan opening on both side of 5.25" bays?).

3)Better cooling in Antec case. I switched my system over into one a few weeks age and my temps dropped 2-3 degrees even with less fans!

If you want to stick with Addtronics you should look at the 6896 case. I've always used Addtronics but I just switched to the Antec case and I like it much better. My $.02.

hi thanks for all your responses, I agree about Mr. Diggler's points about the real annoying shelf right thro the middle of the case and i have heard concerns about the airflow though the case. And yeh i'm gonna need huuuge cables to reach the bays 30" = 75 cm.

I dont think i'll go for the Addtronics W8500/600 because it is twice as much as the 7890A/7896A and has slightly less bays although it does have better airflow than the 789xA.

The point about the fans on the 7896A is worth the extra £4 so I think, considering all this, i'm gonna go for the 7896A and i do have a lot of stuff to put in the bays. Feel free to post more reccommendations/comments though, i'll still take them into account.

Also any1 know where I can buy it from? I'm IN ENGLAND so it has to be a site that delivers here (preferable not an overseas job) and that is in ££ sterling.

thks
