Any reason why you would buy a Duron 850?

I was checking out sharky's cpu price guide, and the Duron 850 is $108 as opposed to the 850 Thunderbird which is $106. Now why would anyone buy a Duron over a Tbird if they are in the same price range?

The duron 850 just came out, give it some time and the price will go down. It's the same with Intel and there Celeron 800.

Zephyr: Who cares! I am sure a 850 Tbird will run on most power supply's 250W and above regardless if the are AMD Recommended or not.

I guess you would buy it if you were dumb.

And incidently the Celeron 800 sucks, everyone knows its just a 533A that intel finally moved to 100FSB, we've had that for a long time.

Damn I'll do anything rather than read more of this spanish crap story for my spanish 5AP final.

Durons are a little more likely to oc. That wouldn't make me buy, but for some it might.

I care!!! If a customer asks me for an upgrade that'll run on his (POS) 235W PSU I'll go duron instead of a Tbird wich might or might not run on this PSU. Unless the customer is willing to risk that he might need a new PSU. Plain and simple! :)

Question:
What applications does the extra cache on the TBird best service?
There's gotta be someone out there who really doesn't need a Thunderbird over the Duron, clock for clock.

Note, it's a purely academic question. I'm sure it was solely an economic one for AMD, but I'm curious what more cache does and for whom.

Is AMD still producing 850 Tbirds? Wouldn't surprise me if they soon dropped the 850 Bird or if they haven't already.
