Any reason why not?

As my temps are a bit rubbish with my Q6600 i cant overclock until i get a decent cooler, i was wondering is there any benefit running it like this

6x400 instead of 9x266

My ram is DDR800 C4 rated so it would love to run at its native speed instead of a piddly 266.

Let me know what you think......lol

Putting more stress on the nb for no performance increase at all. Lowering the timings would be a better idea.

Increasing the FSB would increase the temperatures if anything on both the CPU and the NB (your CPU isn't even guaranteed at working @ 400FSB). And you would have to be running the RAM at a 1:1 divider in order to achieve DDR800 (6x400). In addition to that if your current FSB is 266 that doesn't necessarily mean that your ram is also running at 266 (533 effective) because there are dividers that would be programmed by your RAM's SPD in order for it to operate at DDR800 (stock). I would download CPU-Z and verify all your settings through that and be careful that you know what you are doing when you intend to modify any frequency/voltage.

ok i can run it at 6x400 and its prime stable without any Vcore increases or other voltage increases.

i also thought that running the cpu and mem in 1:1 was best as opposed to cpu running at 266 and mem running at 800.

so is there no performance increase between the 2?

if not ill just run it at 9x266, i mean idealy id like to run it at 8x400 but i need to shift my Vcore up quite a lot and thats where the heat starts creeping in on the rubbish stock cooler.

Thanks

There will be better performance with 1:1 6x400 but by how much- it wouldn't really be noticeable.

Sorry i should of posted this 1st

im currently running

9x266@ 1.040v (Prime Stable for 12+ hours)
Mem @ 1:1 (266)
Timings 3-3-3-12 1.9v
All other voltages at defaults

Temps idle 30-30-29-29 (CoreTemp 0.95.4) on stock intel cooling
Temps load 49-49-48-47

Speedstep and other power saving are off for now.
