any reason why my cable connection is slow?

There's a lot of virus / worm generated traffic right now (and for the last week - ten days). If you watch the activity light on the cable modem (even with your machine off/ disconnected) I'm thinkin' you'll still see a fair amount of activity.

Nothing definite, but check it out.

FWIW

my provider is time warner, earthlink.

i dont understand why my dns is san.rr.com and not earthlink. the time warner guy said that since they provide service for aol, earthlink, and roadrunner, that san.rr.com is pretty much earthlink. he also claimed that everyone here in the UC area is affected, which is a lie since its not mentioned on their status page and because my friends are not having problems.

scottmac, any idea why this seems to be affecting my connection only and not my friends'? i also noticed that when playing CS, the speed is fine. But AIM, IE, and netscape don't work well.

i also pointed out in the other thread (which was supposed to be the original, and this one an accidental repost) that the same day my internet got slow was when i had cable tv activated.

sometimes the internet is speedy as normal, sometimes it's soo slow. it happens quite frequently.

(i know i could just edit one of my original posts but that's one extra thing to load for me, and i run the risk of connection error)

I'm getting the same situation. However I'm with SBC DSL here in Southern Cal.

My slowness acts out in bursts. I've already scanned with norton and trojan cleaner, and I still get lagg intervals every so and so. Especially when i play a game. it laggs so very often as of 4 days ago.

I thought it was a ISP thing so i called the tech guys and they see my line running at 100%

which is true. I test my bandwidth and the results are at normal tests. However, i recently ran the test at DSLreports and it showed 0 as my upload speed. I'll run it again to make sure, but this is pissing me off, I still think its a ISP thing. So just some thoughts, I'm frustrated as you.

danny~!

You mentioned the cable tv connection, which certainly means you are outputting to more devices. There is only so much "signal strength" on the line, which means the more devices, the less signal strength each gets. Try a high-quality signal amp as close to the source as possible.
