Any reason to upgrade from 30.82 Detonators?

Ok, I've been checkin out some of the huge driver roundups and comparisons and found some interesting results. It seems that the 30.82's are faster or just as fast as the latest 40.xx drivers in everything except 3DMark, which I could give a crap about. What improvements do the 40.xx drivers add, and is it worth upgrading to them?

I'm not familiar with 30.82 drivers because I went from 21.83 to 40.xx. However, on top of speed the 40.xx's have a built in refresh rate fix which I liked (I don't know if the 30.82's have that).

I never got the 40.xx to run as stable as the 30.82 but they are faster, You can always uninstall them if they give you problems

Not worth it IMHO. The last few games I've played have stated that there are driver incompatibilities with the 40.xx drivers and recommend using the 30.82's. Haven't needed the built-in 40.xx refresh rate fix since I use a 3rd party app to solve that problem.

I have to agree. The 40.xx drivers are giving me hell. I keep getting the 0x00000050 errors now and then. However, I believe that the dual monitor side of the drivers have increased and are better than the 30.82's. I'm close to going back to the 30.82's though, as I tend not to dual monitor that often. Ever since I upgraded WinXP Pro to SP1 plus the other 30meg of updates that came out since the release I have a system which is only 90% stable as to the 100% I have been used to. :(

Well I tried the 41.09 last night and other than my computer taking longer to bootup it seems to be stable, Will test it today, A big jump from the 30.82's, On a Epox 8K9A2+ with a XP 2400 and a Ti4200 card with nothing overclocked I went from 64 with the 30.82 to 126 with the 41.09 in nature, Score went from 11.200 to 12,400

Umm 3DMark scores are irrelevant. I checked out the comparisons and in ACTUAL games, the difference is very minimal and the 30.82's are faster in some instances. I want to know if there is increased Anisotropic or FSAA performance with the 40.xx.

You'll get a higher Q3 fps score....Hmmmm something doesn't seem right there, or with 3D Mark....Optimised much? I think so

I went from 30.82 now on the 40.72 WHQL drivers anyway they are solid in gaming for me , no problems so far, image quality is decent and it has a nicer Nvidia display panel then the 30.82 ones plus a refresh override for D3D(I use NVrefreshTool anyway).

Speed wise no difference for me since I`m on a GF2 Ti,I mainly look for stability and image quality anyway.

I would stick with the 30.82 unless you are using a GF4; seems like GF3 and below are getting better results with the 30.82's. 40.xx seem to be optimized for the GF4 line.

None of them require 30.82, just recommended them if you experienced bugs. The games I was referring to was Divine Divinity (which was pretty damn bug ridden besides the video drivers) and Arx Fatalis.

By testing out all the games I have installed. I can confirm that the later 3x.xx driver set are by far the most stable and polished of them all. Most of the 3DMark drivers, or as their more commonly referred to as the 4x.xx drivers, introduce a lot of problems for me. I like to use one driver that will work in every thing I do. Right now I'm using driver 32.20. Very clean and speedy. Compare any unreal engine game like Unreal Gold, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex, X-Com Enforcer and Undying with the 3x.xx and 4x.xx and 3x.xx are smoother.
