Any reason to not get an E3110 over an E8400?

From what I've read the E3110 needs less voltage and actually overclocks a little bit better. That's from the three sites I've read. Anything else I should consider or should I just go for it?

Also, I have 4 gigs of this RAM (4x1GB) and was wondering what would be a very stable motherboard for either chip? I don't need any bells and whistles, just good overclocking and very stable. Will be using a GTX260 and Asus Xonar D2X sound card. Under $150, if possible.

Thanks.

Same price I say go for the Xeon for sure.

I'm not a fan of OCZ Ram at all, FYI. Also, can you be more specific on your other mobo requirements (2nd PCIe slot, RAID, firewire, etc)?

The motherboard doesn't need anything fancy at all. No RAID, no firewire, no sound etc. If it comes with it that's fine, but I won't need it. I wouldn't mind a 2nd PCIe slot, as I may use a second nVidia card down the road to do physics. However, by the time that happens they may be incorporating a physics chip on the graphics cards.

I did just pick up this Xigmatek cooler about 30 minutes ago at the local Micro Center. I can't get over how big it is! I'm hoping to hit 4 ghz. with it:

Simply put.

The E3110 can be a newer stepping, hence why its performing better.

The E8400 is obviously an older stepping which is why its getting lower overclocking.

The difference between 200mhz? very small, in all likely hood you wont notice it if your conflicted between two different steppings and not quadcore vs dualcore.

if you're overclocking i would honestly jsut get the e8500 instead of the e8400. newegg and most retailers are selling them within $15-20 of each other, and as far as stepping goes if you are buying from a retail location instead of online you can demand that you see the box to check what stepping it is. the newer stepping looks different, i think its the badge color? red if im not mistaken vs green or blue/white/whatever i dont know for the originals. i ran into a place locally that wouldnt, and i told them if they dont allow me to see what steppings the processors are before i buy one, i am never comming back (this was a couple years ago). pretty much any store will do something so simple as let you see the package before you buy it, all though some of the frys stores are really anal about it since they keep all the CPUs in a locked cage behind the scenes until you buy one, so you have to get someone who isnt retarded to make sure to check for you, which can be hard depending on which frys you go to.
