Any reason to hold onto bank/credit card statements?

Damn things come with about 1 page of useful info, and 5 pages of crap (sometimes even double-sided). Is there any intelligent reason to keep them?

Ive thrown all of them away. I use online banking so this stuff is really useless for me. But im not living on my own so ...

try to get estatement instead. I do keep my statement just in case there is time you need it. keep all your recipts too.

Well I generally keep my credit card statements at least one month, to verify my balance (generally $0) showed up on the next statement. If I close an account, then I'll want verification I have a $0 balance.

Bank statements... I'm not so sure about. I know they're needed if you're applying for a mortgage tho'.

They can sometimes be useful - as you can occasionally get ripped off and not know it for a long time.

My parents got ripped off when I went to a new school - the housemistress asked all new parents for a substantial sum for uniform accessories. Due to the school's reputation no questions were asked, until an older pupil's younger brother joined 3 years later, when the housemistress's little scam was uncovered.

The old bank statements and returned cheques were important evidence in the ensuing prosecution.
