Question Any reason to go with $270 Aorus Pro wifi X570 over the $280 B550 Aorus Master ?

My Mobo budget is around $300 but I can stretch it to $350, though rather not.

I saw below video last night, comparing B550 to X570 VRM temperature test. The Gigabyte B550 Aorus Master tops out against all X570 mobos except the most expensive, the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme.

The Youtuber says the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Master shares the same VRM as the X570 Aorus Master.

I was planning on getting the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro wifi ($270) but now wondering why not go with the B550 Aorus Master ($280)

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro Wifi ($270)

Gigabyte B550 Aorus Master ($280)

X570 has " Dual Ultra-Fast NVMe PCIe 4.0/3.0 x4 M.2 with Dual Thermal Guards "
B550 has " Triple Ultra-Fast NVMe PCIe 4.0/3.0 x4 M.2 with Thermal Guards "

What about the Aorus X570 Master ($360) , what does it have the B550 does not and is it worth it?

So better to go with the B550 Aorus Master over the X570 Pro Wifi because it shares the same VRM as the top of the line X570 Aorus Extreme?

OC3D review also says the B550 Aorus line up knock it out of the park on the VRMs. If bios tweaking and support are a big deal to you, MSI has a better track record. I personally avoid Asus, because should you have a problem, their RMA service is the worst of the worst.

As to the choice you have above, someone else will have to tell you why you should buy the X over the B; I can't think of one that matters to me.

Kitguru's only real knock was the price, but at $280 you get quite a lot, the B designation not withstanding.

Those vrm tests numbers are on a bench w/o direct airflow...

Then there's the fact at B550 is still gen3... so these expensive 550 boards... do not know what they are thinking??

How good is Gigabyte's bios updates / tweaks ?

What aspect is gen3? I assume you mean PCIe 3.0, but all boards have a least one PCIe gen 4.0 M.2 slot, along with the primary GPU slot being 4.0 as well.

If I were building a new PC, I'd go with a B550 board (no chipset fan), but I also wouldn't pay over $200 for a motherboard. I don't need a 50 phase super-duper titanium platinum alloy switching VRM. :p

Iirc only the links connected to the cpu with Matisse are gen4 and everything else is gen 3. At this price point B550's just seem insane. 280 and you could buy a top end x570 in a month when they hopefully come back in stock.

Ya I paid about $300 for my MSI X570 Meg Ace. Really nice board.

Does anyone know if all B550 mobo, including the $280 Gigabyte Aorus Master only has a PCIe 3.0 link between CPU and chipset ?

In Paul's Hardware's latest video he states the major difference between B550 and X570 is PCIe 4 support via the chipset . He has a diagram up stating that the link between the CPU and the chipset on B550 mobo is PCIe 3.0

Yes.

In the Anandtech review, they state that is one of the differences between B550 and X570:
https://www.anandtech.com/show/1585...-overview-asus-gigabyte-msi-asrock-and-others
One of the key ways for AMD to help reduce the cost of its budget boards is to reduce the amount of features on the chipset compared to the X570 models. The easiest way to do this is to remove PCIe 4.0 from the chipset, pushing it back to PCIe 3.0: the processor still offers PCIe 4.0 use, but anything powered by the chipset will be limited to PCIe 3.0. This has the added benefit of reducing the power consumption of the chipset down to 5 W, rather than 10 W, which means that none of the B550 motherboards come with a chipset fan as standard.

From that Anandtech article, regarding the Gigabyte B550 Vision D
"one of very few with two PCIe 4.0 slots from the processor. " Does this mean the Vision D has PCIe 4.0 from the CPU to the Chipset?

Also from the same article, regarding the Gigabyte Aorus Master B550
"This is on top of the PCIe 4.0 x4 that already comes from the CPU " Does this mean the Aorus Master has PCIe 4 from the CPU to the chipset ?

No b550 has a 4.0 uplink to the chipset. If you want a 4.0 chipset uplink buy an x570 board.

What does the article mean when it says there are two PCIe 4.0 slots from the processor? Does that mean there is a PCIe link from CPU to chipset then to the slots?

And the quote referring to the Aorus Master B550 says four PCIe 4.0 lanes comes from the CPU?

It means if you populate those M.2 slots the primary PCIE slot will run at x8 instead of x16. See my previous post. I edited to add more information.

I wouldn't buy either one of these boards unless you are desperate to get something now. When x570 supply picks back up to normal the MSI X570 tomahawk is a no brainer recommendation. No 500 series board can touch the features and VRM for the money. The B550 Aorus Master has a really nice VRM. Other than that it's objectively worse than most x570 boards in it's price range and cheaper. From a technical aspect the VRM is really cool. It's also overkill by a mile and completely unnecessary. Especially if you're not overclocking. Even then you'll never come close to utilizing the current delivery potential because you'll run out of cooling way before power delivery.

I've not heard any talk as to what the OP is going to be doing where the VRM's explicitly matter. Youtubers will focus on stuff like VRM temps as they need content, but they rarely answer the question if it will make a difference with a general user.

I would be concerned that 37% of NewEgg's shoppers gave the 570 board 1-star. Usually you might see bad board examples during a products initial release but a bunch of these were from this year alone.

no sane person goes by Newegg product ratings. Or Amazon ratings for that matter.

One tend to not believe the positive feedback on sites, not the negative. If the feedbacks on NewEgg were 'questionable' I would think it was because of an overall positive rating than a negative one. What reseller promotes high negative feedback as a ruse?
