I asked a rep on Mushkin's forums about the price drop on the 240GB's ($399 to $275ish), he said they are trying to shift a ton of volume, be competitive and build their name up, as they are not as known for their SSDs as other vendors.

It's really an amazing deal, very happy with mine. It's honestly the since piece of hardware I have ever upgraded. BF3 even runs smoother now, no random stuttering due to RAM/VRAM paging to disk. Maps load so fast I have 30 seconds of pre-game, whereas before other players would have 5-6 kills by the time the game loaded (non-B2K maps).

That Mushkin drive is the best deal out there right now. Someone else stated it already, but it's in the same lineage as the Vertex 3 Max IOPS & Patriot Wildfire... in fact it looks like a mirror image of the Patriot Wildfire.

I've owned 3 ssd's, 2 Ocz and 1 Intel, 1 Ocz vertex 2 failed after 11 months. I wouldn't buy again based on that failure rate.

Don't get the OCZ junk. Their drives fail at rate higher than most other manufacturers and OCZ RMA practices may leave you with a substandard replacement. The best deal going for a 240GB drive is the Mushkin Chronos Deluxe at $279 last time I checked.

I have three OCZ drives that are working great, the latest which my 240GB Mushkin Chronos Deluxe has juuust replaced. I've been thoroughly pleased with all of these drives, and the 240GB Mushkin provided another step up of performance from the 120GB Vertex3 which was already insanely fast.

Vertex3 ATTO and CrystalDiskMark

Chronos bench results first run and second run

For the sake of comparison:
ATTO side by side of Vertex2 vs 1TB/64MB and 1TB/32MB WD Black

IMO you really can't go wrong. Do your backups, which you need to do regardless.

So I just installed my new 240GB Mushkin Chronos Deluxe.

My thoughts... HOLY MOTHER FCKING SHT!!! ARE YOU FCKING KIDDING ME?!?! Did anyone get the license plaet number of the flying saucer that dropped off this magnificent piece of technology before it blasted its way out of the galaxy?!

I just installed Win7 in under 10 minutes.
I just installed all my drivers AND ALL windows updates in about 20 min. (most of that was just d/l time for the updates)
I just made an image backup in about 3 minutes!!!

My boot time went form 35 seconds to 5 seconds!!!

And I'm on SATA II!!

WOW!!!

I'll be testing out BF3 today, and something tells me that I'll be pleasantly surprised with the results :)

Ok, that is all. Thanks everyone for all your help!!!

Yes. LOL

Now update your sig.

These need to go out of stock again before I replace my thumb drives and external backup drive too. I don't have any other systems to put SSDs in but I can't shake the urge to buy more at that price.

Pretty much exactly how I felt, and my PC is even older than yours. Wait until you try BF3, the load times (and lack of paging chopiness in game) was by the far the most impressive thing for me.
