How does this monitor run at non-native resolutions? Does it use a black box?

From what I've heard this is a great monitor...

I want an LCD for my eyes. And I'm willing to spend extra to have a higher resolution.

DOn't think I'm willing to pay more for a wide screen or larger size. Should I go for it?
 
Best monitor I've ever seen.

Interpolation at lower resolutions seems very good and there is an option to use the black box you are talking about, but it's not on by default.

Really nice on the eyes and text looks better on this at 1600x1200 than my 17" lcd did at 1280x1024

Personally I think the 2001FP is better than the 2005
