The switech MC370 is not a concern for weight, it is a good heatsink that should work well for you.

If you're not overclocking then why do you need a new HSF? Shouldn't your current HSF work for your system? I bought a swiftech and it is arriving at my house today. I've been using the stock HSF that came with my athlon 1200mhz all week and getting temps like 55-60 C with the case on and 40-45 with the case off, so I'm looking forward to the swiftech a lot!!!!

The weight isn't that much of an issue. There are heavier coolers than the MC-370. I have a 1.33 running at stock speeds and I bought the 370 because I wanted to keep temps as low as possible. I average around 34C with normal surfing and get at most +2-3C under full load. I wouldn't have any other cooler. When you open the box and take it out, you will understand.

Darkluck...I would be very surprised if your temps don't drop at least 10C.

It came in the mail yesterday, I opened it and I was very impressed by the weight. I couldn't believe how heavy the swiftech is. Anyways, I'm going to install it tonight...had to much to do last night. I hope that NightTrain is right cuz I'd really like to see my temps get down closer to 40 C.

well i took off my golden orb and but the stock hsf which looks similar to a taisol. I noticed that when my computer would run for a couple of hours like in playing games( tribes 2) it would not shut down correctly. I am hoping that it was a cpu cooling problem but i dont know for sure.

Darkluck, did you get a 370 or a 462? The MC-370 weighs like 318 grams...a bit over AMD's max recommended weight. It's between the SuperOrb and the Alpha PEP weightwise. But the MC-462 weighs 789...it's a beast.

it would seem to me that you need to increase ur case cooling. i wouldn't expect miracles from your swiftech w/ the case closed. not if the temps you posted are accurate. 20 degree differenc celsius between case closed and open is waaayyy too much.

Platinum Gold - I didn't have any case fans when I was running it earlier this week, it would have helped if I had said that huh? Sorry for the confusion.

Anyways, I installed it last night and here's the temps I got:

first reading after loading windows and idling for 5 mins:

27C room temp
32C MB temp (I'd like to know where this probe is on the Epox 8K7A)
38C CPU temp

second reading after playing Unreal Tournament and Diablo 2 for 3 hours:

25C room temp
31C MB temp
36C CPU temp

all of these temps were taken with the case off. Hopefully I'll only get a 2-5C increase when I put the case back on...especially now that I have case fans as noted above. :)
