Any reason for 7870 over 7850?

I'm a light gamer (rpg types, few fps) with i5 2500k, win 7, and 1900x1200.
From reviews, it seems 7850 is all I really need at x1200.

Now if I had higher res, I would consider 7870, but just hard to justify for the extra $90 bucks.

Any thoughts?
Plan to pull trigger soon.

thx,

Just read reviews bro. Obviously you need the 7870 if you want more eyecandy, but if you don't need ultra settings on the new games like BF3/Crysis 2, 7850 will do just fine.

That being said, the $90 could prove a good investment for future game-releases if you don't want to upgrade for another 2-3 years.

Little faster but not $100 faster especially if you decide to overclock and remove the gap.

Does the 7850 overclock better than the 7870? If not, the gap will remain since 7870 OCs quite well on it's own.

7850 starts gimped at ~850Mhz 7870 is 1000Mhz, same chip. They will OC to same lvls. ~1200mhz.

7850 stats 10-15% slower but will only be 3-5% slower once you OC both.

7870 is not worth it non overclocked, 30% more money for 10% more performance? I don't think so. And a total waste of money if you OC both.

Exactly.

Put that $100 in a piggy bank, into an SSD, or into a better CPU and it will be money better spent.

Or, into dinner placating your SO that you just dropped some reasonably serious money on a computer component so you can play more games :p

Stock to stock 7870 is about 20% faster. After overclocking both, 7870 Oced will be at least 10-15%+ faster than 7870 oc

Oced 7850 ~ 580 stock or nearly
Oced 7870 ~ 7950 or better

A stock 7850 is like 10% faster than a stock 6950 but still slower than stock 6970 or 570 by 5-10% or so. A stock 7870 comes within 5% of a stock 580. A Oced 7870 beats a Oced 580

The recent price check here in Europe shows me that

7850 can be had as low as €209
7870 starts at €300 with some of the models (XFX Black etc. over €350!)

Needless to say i think €350-ish for this card is insanely stupid, and i even consider €300 already pretty overpriced.

I think the 7850 is hands down the better deal, given the claimed and observed mega-overclockability of those cards and the rather low resolutions you are gaming.

By the way, compared, the $90 difference for you guys would be still "acceptable" as compared to the difference here (€ --> $). But i still would probably rather get a 7850.
