Any real benefit to upgrading A8N-SLI Premium to Audigy 2?

What will I get out of upgrading the A8N SLI from the onboard sound to an Audigy 2? Take a little bit of load off the CPU maybe? How would the sound quality compare?

I'm not really up to speed on sound tech, but I thought I'd check to see if anybody else was, since I had this spare card sitting here. It's either getting installed with my A8N Premium or going on eBay...

Thanks for your input.

I don't fancy onboard sound cards very much, so I would definately recommend having your Audigy2 over the onboard. When I've upgraded my system recently, I've decided to use the Audigy card from my old PC rather than selling it (not worth the value!). 🙂

Then again, it depends on your speaker setup. For myself, because I listen to music often, I get very picky on the output quality. If you have good speakers, best put them to good use with a good sound card.

Hope this helps! 🙂

as someone who cannot decipher audio quality very well, I can say it is a worthwhile upgrade. The main things i notice with my audigy 2 vs onboard sound is a much more accurate control of volume. Onboard sound seems to output 2 levels to your speakers, quiet and LOUD, and no amount of accuracy on the slider can change that. Plus they tend to crackle and make obviously annoying noises when turned up to high. A Sound card just makes the process much cleaner and offers alot better control over what happens.

good speaker? get a good sound card.

cheap speaker? save your money and stick with onboard sound.

by "good speaker", I don't mean Logitech Z-4 or anything lower than $50 that you can find.

Goin to a seperate sound card will also use up less cpu cycles. Overall sound performance is better IMO as well. The Audigy2 ZS is a good cheap alternative to pricier sound cards. Definetly worth the step up IMO.
