Any real benefit to doing pushups?

From my experience in the Navy I will say yes. It does improve strength and tone in your pecs and triceps.
Although not NEARLY as good as if you did a variety of benchpresses. But push ups are free and weights cost money.

I'd recommend straight, inclined and reclined benches for maximum effect.
Get a gym membership and talk to one of the trainers.

Remember to balance out the opposing muscles too. Lat pulls and rows should help.

doesn't that defeat the purpose of:

I've got a gym membership already, I was just curious to know whether or not it would be a waste of time to just to a few pushups here and there when I'm just at home, or if there would be a benefit of toning and strengtening or increasing flexibility.

True.
I was actually giving two seperate pieces of advice.
1. If you are cheap or broke, do pushups.
2. If you are serious about muscles, go to gym and pick brains of trainer.

I think pushups are wonderful exercises. There are people out there that can bench a nice weight, but can't do too many pushups (and of course vice-versa). It really is something to consider to add to your exercise regimen.

Do you think it might be a good way to start my mornings?

I try to wake up at 6:30, but I could wake up at 6:00 and do a bunch of pushups/crunches then take a shower, eat breakfast and go on with my day.

I'm looking for a way to improve myself, and I think a nice comfortable routine like this would probably help. I'm sure it would boost my energy levels by getting my blood pumping.

Sure it'll help. It's better than doing nothing in terms of health. But don't expect to actually see that much improvement in your chest though.

if you want to improve yourself like the way i'm thinking, your best bet is to to do something to get your heart elevated like running.

you'll notice a huge difference in everytyhing you do if you run a few times a week.

of course there is . just do sets. increase number of sets every session..or every other session or whatever. if u can't do a full set do a partial until u are gone. its like any other workout. one can raise legs on chairs or put elbows at sides to make it harder..or one handed😉

Pushups an a regular basis @ least 3 times weekly can have grreat results. Although, you shouold have something else going on to pick up the slack and exercise at least nearby muscle components as well. Maybe a set of dumbbells.
