Any R. A. Salvatore fans in here?

I have never heard him mentioned, so I thought I'd see if anyone in here has ever heard of or read any of Salvatore's work. I just got my copy of his latest book last night and I can't WAIT to go home and read it. That guy writes fight scenes like none other.

I've read his stuff. Its ok. Loved it when I was younger and when I still played D&D. Fight scenes have good descriptions but sometimes it seems too much. Also, character of Drizzt seems too invincible.

I read the Crystal Shard Trilogy and the Dark Elf Trilogy a few years ago and then the books that came out after those but they seem to be going down hill recently. I think the last one I read was "A Thousand Orcs" but I never bothered finishing it. My favorite was the Dark Elf Trilogy by far.

"The Lone Drow" has been out a lot longer than since Tuesday. I'm not exactly sure when it came out, but I've had it in my posession for several weeks now. I was reading a Ludlum book when I bought it so I didn't start reading it until a couple of days ago. But I'm nearly finished now. The third book in the trilogy is out in hardcover and it's on the way from Barnes & Noble.com, but the USPS seems to have lost it. The tracking number shows it arrived in Memphis 8 days ago with no activity since :|

RA Salvatore's sweet. I've basically read all of the Drizzt books. I guess I should see if the library has his latest book. Been waiting for the Lone Drow for quite some time. You should check out the three Greyhawk books written by Paul Kidd about the Justicar. Funny sh!t.

"Ahh! It's a drizzit!"

He's a pretty good writer, I read him a lot back when I was in my DragonLance stage. I've moved on since then though. That kind of pure fantasy doesn't interest me as much once I matured past the jr high stage.

Oh yea, and my mandatory A Song of Ice and Fire ownz all comment.

If only Martin would finish "A Feast for Crows"! I don't want him to rush the book or anything, but damn, it's taking a hell of a long time.

Not as long as it has taken RJ to finish WOT.

You must be confusing the word finish with the words prolong as long as possible because I'm a greedy bastard that sold out.

You must be referring to The Two Swords. I placed my order on Amazon.com and can't wait to read this.

Not really...

it's more about mindless reading... women have Harlequin, guys have D&D...

it all comes out in the wash..

Oh spare me...
That's just ridiculous. I found out a few of my college professors read his stuff. I don't see why you would be as ignorant as to say that - though honestly I did expect it from at least one person. As blakeatwork said, it's fantasy. It's an escape. It's just a fun story. WTF is childish about that?

As for his writing abilities, he's as good a fantasy writer as they come, IMO. His books are as good as the Dragonlance series was.

meh, I disagree. I read Crystal Shard, then a few series by other authors such as Donaldson (mmm, ok i guess) and then started Martin. Finished Storm of Swords then went back to try Salvatore's Demon trilogy and seriously couldn't get through the first 100 pages. Ditto the Dragonlance books. Granted they were the originals, kinda, but talk about cliche! Bleh! Honestly speaking I don't remember the writing quality in the crystal shard. I do recall I enjoyed it at the time. But if the demon trilogy is any indication, his abilities fall far short of what I would call "as good as they come."

I'm not saying I agree with you but 14 was around the age I read them...

I think that was roughly when i read some of his books. Luthien Bedwyr, or something like that. dont remember much of it other than the nice description of the half-elf that was in it. :)

Read the Dark Elf Trilogy. That's clearly his best.

Isn't he the guy that made all this "fight with two swords stuff" popular that we're seeing in movies all over the place today?
