Ma! Pa! The barns on fire! Luckily this was on an old farm that no one lives at, and the barn only had straw and an old boom truck in it. The fire started in the brush along a gravel road, and moved straight to the barn. By the time I got there, the straw on the inside was burning like mad. Then the tires on the boom truck exploded, and the rest of the barn caught on fire. No was was hurt, and the volunteer firefighters put it out. It was exciting...I was just strolling around it taking pics. I'll add more as I upload them.

It was really old and I don't think it ran. It was a piece of junk. There was an old tractor in there, an antique, but it was also a piece of junk. Luckily I keep my stash of vintage playboys hidden in a shed that didn't burn down! ;)

The lady from the newspaper didn't get there until it was almost out, so I emailed some pictures to the newspaper. I hope they print one of mine.

I live in the country about an hour north of Peoria, IL and 2 1/2 hours west of Chicago. I live three miles from a town that has 450 people in it. This barn was really old, and didn't have anything of value in it. I think my exact thoughts when I saw it were, "Aw neat, that old barn is burning down, I bet all that straw in there makes it really flame up." :p

It's weird, though...the town's volunteer fire department put out only 28 fires last year, and they've already put out 27 so far this year. Only two weeks ago we had a brush fire in one of our fields. Tonight, it was like the fire started by the road and went straight for the barn. Someone must have it out for us...

Whattaya gonna do, though?

Hate to say this, but I'd wager somebody torched your barn. Barn fires are pretty spectacular as such things go, and the risk of getting caught is low, so they tend to be a magnet for pyros. We had a rash of barn fires when I was a teen in PA. You don't seem to care, but these were historic structures ... big old timber-frame Pennsylvania Bank Barns between 100 to 150 years old, as well as somebodies livelihood and a good bit of their fortune.

Yeah, we are thinking someone set the fire, too. This is the second fire we've had in 2 weeks, although the other one was just a brush fire. It takes a lot for a cigarette or a spark to start a fire, and there have been a lot of fires so far this year in an area that has very few. This barn was pretty old, but luckily it was on an old abandoned farm, and we don't use it anymore. My dad used to keep his new field cultivator in this barn, but luckily it was at our house. If it's an arsonist, I hope they don't torch our house next.

It could have been worse...
