Any proof that Plasmas only last a few years VS. LCDs?

I thought i read here that plasmas have a short life span. If anybody has any links or articles, feel free to post up.

Plasmas are basically tiny cells of gas that are charged to emit light. Just like any incandescent or flourescent light bulb it loses its luminosity over time. I've heard they can lose 30-50% of its luminosity in the first year and have life spans anywhere within 3 to 7 years.
