Any programmers up a potentially life-saving project?

Are any programmers out there interested in a quick, but potentially life-saving project? I think it would be great if someone wrote an app that would allow a (future) motorcycle user to input his or her data and calculate how likely he is to get killed or injured in a crash. Thanks to someone who digged this up for another thread of mine, i have the numbers on-hand, so only the actual coding is required. The types of data a user would be able to input are:

- do you always wear a helmet: yes/no
- do you ever drive intoxicated: yes/no
- average amount of time spent driving during each daytime and nighttime
- previous crash convictions
- possibly others

This would allow someone who owns a bike or is thinking about buying one to seriously evaluate the odds of getting injured or killed in a crash. So if that person determines the odds to be too high, they may reconsider using a bike, and this app may very well end up saving their life. Have a look at this PDF for more info. Other data sources are available.

Could be done i guess, but i think more people would use it if it was a web-based app or an exe. It would get linked on a lot of sites.

The Army/military actually has a survey that does this. It asks how much you drink, if you wear your seatbelt all the time, etc and tells you your most likely way to die and how soon. Pretty interesting actually.

Edit - it's paper based, but easily translated to web format. It's been a while since I did one, so I don't know if they do them anymore. I can look.

I bet. This app could be adapted for car drivers, skydivers, climbers, etc. The applications are limitless.

Like someone's going to give up drinking and driving cause they saw a number on the internet. Hell, msot of them don't even give it up after thier first DUI.

I know you're not specificallly trying to stop drinknig and driving, but a number on the internet is about equally as convincing for getting someone to wear a seatbelt or choose a car over a motorcycle.

I state again:

IMHO if you are worried about the statistics and broken bones, you shouldn't be riding a motorcycle in the first place.

If i stayed away from everything i'm worried about, i probably wouldn't have much to do, would i? I worry about getting hit by a car while crossing the street, so does that mean i should never go outside anymore? ;)

You have to be either really stupid or really drunk to not care about potential consequences of your actions :D Or perhaps we should ask one of those dead guys who fell into the "driving at night / intoxicated / no helm / no license / collided with pole" category? ;)

This is a noble idea, but at the same time, utterly pointless.

A little common sense is infinitely more helpful than a program that generates the probability of your dying based on certain factors. If you're stupid enough to ride without a helmet or drink and ride your motorcycle at the same time, you deserve a starring role in Red Asphalt.

No. I don't go through life worrying about every little thing and the consequences of such. I don't worry about crossing the street because I expect to make it across. If i get hit, I get hit. If were to buy a motorcycle, I wouldn't worry about dying in a firey crash, because I wouldn't expect to get into one.

But if i am worried about dying in a firey crash, then I just wouldn't get one in the first place. Statistics are just that, statistics. If your chances of dying are 1 in 200, there are 199 who live. I'd expect to be one of those 199 because I don't go through life worrying about it.

Are motorcycles really that dangerous? How often does the average motorcycle rider crash or lay down the bike?

I would say more often than not, they are safe with the exception of people in cars who don't see them or drive like asses in their cars. I've nearly been hit twice on my bike by inattentive drivers at intersections.
