any problems with using a bounce/dryer sheet as an air filter?

i wanted an easily changed filter for my computer case, so i figured a bounce sheet might work. It's making my basement smell good, and it's just stuck to the front grill of my SX830 from the suction. It feels kind of waxy though, is it going to deposit any kind of gunk on my components? thanks :)

I can't imagine it would hurt anything. Personally, I'd use on that had been run through the dryer once.

Just keep in mind that those things are ridiculously flammable--if you smoke or your friends do, and you guys ash next to your computer...

uhhhhh i'm getting queasy...

the wifey uses these items - the box specifically states to use on low heat setting only, and not to use with children's clothes because it may reduce flame resistance. the box also talks about a "oily stain" that can appear on clothes....

i don't know whats in those sheets - but i doubt it's ultimately safe or good for youir machine.

who cares about a little lint inside your computer? i've been using mini-computers and pc's for over thirty years, and have never had a performance issue or hardware failure related to "lint"
if it worries you so much - open the case up and vacumn or blow the lint out once a year - better yet - just don't look at it.

reducing the airflow through your case is probably more harmful to your components than any amount of lint.

I would suggest cheese cloth instead of a bounce sheet as well. It will stop more dust but will not allow any residue to get through and is not as flammable as a bounce sheet(cause of the stuff on it). I personally wouldn't worry about it though, if you do just blow out your case with an air compressor every so often.

Yeah, ok, so maybe they'll make your computer a flammable time bomb. So maybe bits of fabric softener will coat your critical electronic components.

Think of it, you'll have the freshest smelling computer in the world! Talk about a cool case mod!

jk. Seriously, it shouldn't be too hard to find some kind of filter that won't have all sorts of side effects. Go to a hardware store and get a furnace filter (not fiberglass) and cut a piece to the required size. They are designed to filter air and they are low resistence.
